| Monthly PLAIN Meeting - July 8, 2009 | |||||||||||
Office of the Federal RegisterWhat difference does plain language make when people vote? For
our July meeting, Ginny Redish will share the results of a research
study she recently completed on language in ballots. In this study,
funded by NIST, 45 US voters in 3 cities voted on two ballots that
differed only in the wording and presentation of the language on the
ballot. One ballot was in typical ballot language; the other was in
plain language. You will be very pleased with the main results and
intrigued by problems that people had -- in some cases, even on the
plain language ballot. Ginny will bring copies of the ballots for us to
work with.
The meeting is from 2:00-3:30 pm. I hope to see you there. Amy Bunk
